ETHICAL PRINCIPLES AND PUBLICATION POLICY

International Journal Of Tourism And Destination Studies to editors, referees and authors, taking into account scientific ethical principles, Higher Education Institutions Scientific Research and Publication Ethics Directive, COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics), Elsevier Guidelines for Publication Ethics and ICMJE-International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. It has been created by using international standards prepared for in the publication processes of our journal attention is paid to the following issues within the scope of the principles of impartial, transparent and scientific publication ethics.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EDITORS

The editors of the International Journal Of Tourism And Destination Studies evaluate the articles submitted to the journal within the framework of the journal's objectives, scope, importance of the studies, conceptual, theoretical and practical contributions to the literature, validity-reliability levels, spelling-spelling and grammar rules, academic writing skills. According to the results of this review, the editors are authorized and responsible for the publication, rejection and revision (revision) decisions of the studies. In this process, the editors may request additional referees' opinions while making their decisions, and may seek opinions from other editorial board members and the scientific committee.

Peer Review Process

Editors are responsible for conducting the peer-review process in an impartial, fair, transparent and fair manner.

Editors should not prefer referees who are biased, who would violate impartiality due to their academic and institutional backgrounds and affiliation. They should pay particular attention to the fact that the referees are made up of people who are competent and have expertise in their field.

Editors should benefit from researchers and academics who have education, knowledge and experience within the scope of the study while directing the studies to the referees.

Editors should form the referee pool of researchers and academics who will examine the studies in a timely manner will not victimize the researchers and authors in this regard and will be meticulous about the evaluation criteria.

In the evaluation of the studies, the editors should carry out the process by using a double-blind peer-review system with at least two independent referees from outside the institution to which the authors or researchers are affiliated and by obtaining the opinion of additional referees or scientific committees when necessary.

Impartiality

Editors; ethnicity, language, religion, gender, political opinion, etc. of authors and researchers. They should carry out the preliminary review, referee evaluation and publication process without considering their differences and values.

Confidentiality

Editors; they cannot use the studies, additional information, documents and all other documents coming to the journal in their personal research, in line with their interests and in line with the interests of the journal without the permission of the authors or researchers. In addition, editors should take care to protect the privacy of authors, researchers and studies during the article evaluation process, and they should comply with legal requirements and ethical principles in terms of keeping personal data.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors should refrain from evaluating the work of authors or researchers with whom they have conflicts of interest and affinity and managing the relevant publication process.

Ethics Committee, Human and Animal Rights

Editors should pay attention to the protection of human and animal rights and should consider the approval of the ethics committee when necessary and are responsible for rejecting the articles without ethics committee approval.

Protection of Intellectual Property Rights

Editors are obliged to protect the intellectual property rights of all ideas and results presented in the studies submitted to the journal and to defend the rights of both the journal and the authors in case of violations. In addition, the editors should show the necessary sensitivity that the contents, information and documents in all works submitted to the journal do not violate the intellectual property rights of other works.

 RESPONSIBILITIES OF REFEREES

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

It is important for the referees to evaluate the studies in a healthy and responsible manner in order for the editors to make the publication decisions correctly and not to disrupt the process. Referees should evaluate the work they are assigned to within the time limits defined for them. In addition, they should respond to the revision requests they request from the authors within the time specified for them. The referees should handle the work evaluation requests received within the framework of their fields of expertise, competencies and professional experience and if the review requests do not comply with their knowledge and expertise, they should return the studies to the editors without evaluating them. When writing the reports of the studies they evaluate, the referees should take care to use a constructive, guiding and instructive style in accordance with academic, scientific, ethical principles and suggestions to the authors. They should refrain from writing derogatory, sarcastic, hurtful, humiliating and hostile comments and criticism towards authors, researchers or studies.

Confidentiality

The referees should not share the works sent to them for evaluation with the authors, researchers and other third parties without the permission of the editorial board and should not communicate directly or indirectly with these interested parties in the process. In addition, the referees should never include the content, documents, results and other documents in the studies they evaluated in their own studies and should not turn the data they have obtained and accessed during the evaluation process into personal interest and advantage.

Objectivity

The referees should evaluate the studies in an impartial, transparent and fair manner and should focus only on the content of the studies during the evaluation process. In the process, they should not allow authors, researchers or studies to influence their assessment of nationality, gender, language, religion, ethnicity, field of application or any commercial concerns and should not be biased.

Sensitivity to Ethical Issues

The referees should examine the studies they are assigned to evaluate with scientific ethical and academic rigor. In addition, during the evaluation process, they should analyze the aspects where the studies differ from other studies in the literature. In the process, they should convey all other unethical situations, especially the similarity between the literature and the study to the editorial board and management of the journal.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF AUTHOR'S

Reporting Standards

Authors should pay attention to the fact that the studies they sent to our journal have not been published elsewhere.

Authors are required to use the sources they use in their studies or the images, information and data they receive from other studies by making a correct and complete reference to the source and show the relevant sources in the bibliography of their studies within the framework of the journal writing rules.

Authors should avoid including the names of institutions, organizations, authors and researchers who did not contribute to the preparation and publication processes of the studies they sent to our journal.

The documents, data, results and statements presented by the authors in their studies should be objective, transparent, realistic and scientific.

Data Access and Archiving

Authors are required to submit their data, visuals and data collection processes in their work to editors, referees or public access within the scope of open data access, when requested or deemed necessary. In addition, it is obligatory for authors to archive items that constitute data and evidence within the scope of their work for at least one year from the date of publication.

Originality

It is extremely important for authors to adhere to the perspective and criteria of universal originality in their work and to avoid all forms of plagiarism (similarity). One of the prerequisites for the publication process is that the authors receive a report from the "iThenticate" or "Turnitin" plagiarism-similarity detection and measurement statistical programs-software regarding their work to be sent to our journal and that they do not exceed 20% in the relevant report, excluding the bibliography.

Multi or Simultaneous Broadcasting

If the authors do not send the studies they have sent to our journal to more than one publication at the same time do not direct their work that has been previously published in another journal to our journal and if the authors whose studies have reached our journal want to withdraw their work for evaluation in another place, they should inform the editorial board before the referee process begins and the approval of all authors or researchers. They are required to submit their written requests to the editorial board of the journal.

Article Authoring

The names of the authors should be listed according to the level of their contribution to the study. All authors or researchers contributing to the study must be added to the list of authors. In addition, studies produced from the thesis will not be included in the evaluation and publication process with only the name of the author or researcher (with one author) without the advisor waiver document. All authors whose names are mentioned in the studies submitted to our journal accept the legal, scientific and ethical responsibilities and sanctions of their respective studies.

Statement of Support

Authors should clearly identify all sources of support that contributed to the preparation of the study and to conducting the research or writing the study and should indicate the contribution of these individuals, institutions, or organizations to the study design.

Reporting Basic Errors

When authors detect an error or deficiency in their work, they should contact the journal editors within five (5) days. Editors take into consideration whether the referee process has started or not in the withdrawal requests of the studies and in this process, the authors should have the responsibility of collaborating with the editor. In addition, all of the parties whose names are mentioned in the study and contributed to the withdrawal requests and in the studies produced from the thesis are required to submit a written approval document to the journal editorial board, which is approved by the advisors.

Author Change

Requests for changes in the names of the authors in the works of the authors are not accepted unless the journal editors are informed with justification and in writing.

In addition to the responsibilities of the editor, referee and author stated above, the following issues are also important for the ethical principles and publication process of our journal.

Ethics committee decision is required for studies conducted in 2020 and following years within the scope of YÖK decision meeting and UAK associate professorship criteria. Studies that require ethics committee approval are as follows:

Retrospective studies in accordance with the personal data protection law,

Use of humans and animals (including material/data) for experimental or other scientific purposes,

Clinical studies on humans,

All kinds of research conducted with qualitative or quantitative approaches that require data collection from the participants by using survey, interview, focus group work, observation, experiment and interview techniques, and

Studies on animals.

However;

Retrospective ethics committee approval is not required for studies that used research data before 2020 and were produced from master's/doctoral studies (must be specified as a footnote in the study).

Permission must be obtained from the owners for the use of scales, questionnaires and photographs of others used in the studies.

It should be declared that copyright regulations are complied with for the intellectual and artistic works used in the works.

“Informed Consent Form” should be declared in case reports.

In studies to be published in our journal, it should be clearly stated in the study whether ethical committee permission and/or legal/special permission is required. If it is necessary to obtain these permissions, it should be clearly stated from which institution, on which date and with which decision or number number the permission was obtained. This information should be stated with the following information just before the bibliography.

Support Information: If any aid/support in kind or in cash was received from any person, institution or organization during the preparation process of the study, it should be stated clearly and in detail.

Conflict of Interest: If the authors have any conflict of interest or gain from the related work, it should be stated.

Author Contribution Rate: The contribution levels of the authors or researchers in the study author list should be given in %.

Ethical Approval: The author(s) or researcher(s) must declare that ethical rules have been complied with in all preparation processes of the study. In case of detection of a contrary situation, International Journal Of Tourism And Destination Studies does not assume any responsibility and the legal responsibilities and sanctions regarding the process belong to the authors of the study.

Ethics Committee Approval: In studies that require an ethics committee decision, it should be clearly stated from which institution, on which date and with which decision or number number the permission was obtained. In studies that do not require an ethics committee decision, why an ethics committee decision is not required should be clearly presented in the study. Information about the ethics committee decision should also be shown by giving a footnote to the title of the study and the dates between which the research data were collected should be presented in the method section.

Informed Consent Form: It is requested from studies where the relevant document is required.
